The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) 2022–2026 Strategic Plan defines the USPTO’s mission to drive U.S. innovation, inclusive capitalism, and global competitiveness for the benefit of all Americans. We do this by unleashing America’s potential for long-term economic growth, supply chain resiliency, human prosperity, and national security. We are working to accelerate the creativity that drives U.S. innovation in all its forms and then bolster the adoption of that innovation in key and emerging technologies, while bringing more Americans into the innovation ecosystem.
Our ultimate goal is to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity for the benefit of all Americans and people around the world. Guided by this mission and vision, the USPTO 2022–2026 Strategic Plan offers five goals that we aim to achieve:
Goal 1: Drive inclusive U.S. innovation and global competitiveness;
Goal 2: Promote the efficient delivery of reliable intellectual property (IP) rights;
Goal 3: Promote the protection of IP against new and persistent threats;
Goal 4: Bring innovation to impact for the public good; and
Goal 5: Generate impactful employee and customer experiences by maximizing agency operations.
The plan reflects the leadership of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office with opportunities for feedback and input from the USPTO’s other senior leaders, our patent and trademark public advisory committees, and the public. We look forward to working with our stakeholder community to continue to deliver on the mission, vision, and goals of our strategic plan.
