Dan Vavonese

As the Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Operations at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Dan Vavonese leads the Trademark Law Offices and Trademark Services in all aspects of trademark examination, registration, and maintenance.

Mr. Vavonese joined the USPTO as a trademark examining attorney in 1995. He then moved into management, first as a senior attorney and then as managing attorney of Trademark Law Office 109. Mr. Vavonese was promoted to Group Director of the Trademark Law offices in 2015. He has served as the business architect for trademarks, assisting in the planning and updating of information technology and business priorities, and he has helped lead the development and implementation of recent rule and policy changes.

Mr. Vavonese received a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
