Join the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for training webinars on how to file in DOCX through Patent Center. Register today for one of the next available trainings, scheduled for May 23 and June 11 and 27.

During the training, the eCommerce Modernization (eMod) team will conduct a demonstration using the Patent Center training mode. Each session takes about an hour and includes time for questions, as well as an opportunity to use the training mode to practice DOCX filing.

Once you're registered for a training, you will be emailed instructions for joining the webinar prior to your session. We encourage applicants to use the Patent Center training mode to practice filing in DOCX without saving or storing data to USPTO systems. We also recommend viewing this video about how to file DOCX documents in training mode before the webinar.

Register today

As previously noted, effective January 17, 2024, those filing new, non-provisional utility patent applications with specification, claims, and abstracts in non-DOCX filing formats now incur a surcharge. The option for applicants to provide an auxiliary PDF version of their application with their DOCX version remains available. There are no fees associated with providing the auxiliary PDF.

We are committed to ensuring a successful and smooth transition to the DOCX format for our patent applicants, and we invite you to review the FAQs and other resources on our DOCX information page on the USPTO website.
