Name, Image, Likeness for student-athletes
Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) for student-athletes has changed the landscape of high school and college athletics. As student-athletes become athlete-entrepreneurs, there is a need for information and education about rights, policy, and practical aspects such as building a brand.
Join us in person or online Friday, November 15, for the next event in the Name, Image, Likeness for student-athletes series to learn how you can support them through their NIL journey.
This event is hosted in collaboration with the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Law and will take place virtually and in person in San Francisco, California. Speakers will include experts from the USPTO and USF, as well as special guests with firsthand experience securing NIL rights for student-athletes.
Speakers will discuss:
- The basics of NIL rules and related governance
- How to build an effective brand
- Common pitfalls regarding NIL contracts
- Trademark prosecution before the USPTO
- Benefits to registering a trademark with the USPTO
This hybrid event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. PT with breaks throughout and brief closing remarks. Check-in for in-person attendees is from 8:30-9 a.m. PT.
If you have questions about the event, email Gerard.Taylor@uspto.gov.
