Don’t miss out on the expanded Collaborative Search Pilot program
Work-sharing program between USPTO, Japan Patent Office, and Korean IP Office to strengthen IP rights through collaborative prior art searching and examination of corresponding patent applications to expire in October
The Collaborative Search Pilot program, an important partnership between the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Japan Patent Office (JPO), and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), provides patent applicants who cross-file their applications internationally with comprehensive search results from multiple offices early in the examination process, giving applicants more robust and reliable patent rights. Benefits include:
- Greater consistency in examination across offices leading to more certainty of IP rights.
- Applications will be taken out of turn resulting in expedited first action on merits.
- Combined search expertise provides more comprehensive prior art.
- Collaborative examination requires fewer office actions on average to complete prosecution.
This free program is set to expire on October 31. Applicants wishing to take advantage of the benefits of the expanded CSP need to have unexamined corresponding counterpart applications in the USPTO and either/both KIPO and JPO. For more information, visit the CSP page on the USPTO website. To attend a CSP information session and learn more about how to participate, email csp@uspto.gov.
