The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emerging Technologies (ET) Partnership will hold its next meeting, AI/ET Partnership Series #4: AI tools and data, virtually and in person at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, on September 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

First announced in June 2022, the AI/ET Partnership brings stakeholders together to share ideas, feedback, experiences, and insights on the intersection of intellectual property (IP) and AI/ET.

During the meeting, presenters from the USPTO and other federal agencies, along with diverse panelists from academia, industry, and law firms will explore IP policy issues related to AI tools and data, including:

  • Efforts at the USPTO and elsewhere to harness AI to benefit stakeholders and the IP system
  • The value of USPTO data in advancing the state-of-the-art in AI
  • Timely policy issues as to trustworthy and responsible AI

“The USPTO plays an important role in incentivizing innovation in critical technologies such as AI and other emerging technologies,” said Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO Kathi Vidal. “We are looking closely at the growing role of AI in innovation and its potential to dramatically affect our lives, and improve our country’s competitiveness, economic prosperity, and national security. Through our AI/ET partnership meetings, we are gathering feedback directly from the innovation community to promote greater awareness, openness, and inclusivity on our ongoing and future AI and ET efforts.”

The event is free and open to the public, but in-person attendance is limited. Register today to attend in person or virtually.
