Public listening session on September 26 on whether to change trademark rule regarding duration of attorney recognition

As part of the provisions to implement the Trademark Modernization Act, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) previously proposed revisions to the trademark rule regarding the duration of attorney recognition. We received mixed feedback on these proposed changes from practitioners. To gather further input from the public on this issue, the USPTO will hold a public listening session on whether to change the attorney recognition rule regarding the duration of recognition or to retain the current rule and remove attorney information from trademark application and registration records when recognition ends.

The public listening session will take place on September 26, from 2-3:30 p.m. ET, virtually and in person at the USPTO Headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

There are two options for providing feedback on the proposed changes to the rule regarding the duration of attorney recognition:

For further details on how to provide feedback, please see our Federal Register Notice.

If you wish to attend the listening session either in person or virtually, but not speak at the event, please register by September 18 as seating is limited for in-person attendance.
