Learn the fundamentals of the patent application process

StART Program 2022

Do you have an invention you want to patent? Are you unfamiliar with the patent filing process? Are you a first-time patent application filer or new to the Patent Center? Are you unsure where to start?

The United States Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) Stakeholders Application Readiness Training (StART) program is hosting a free three-day virtual workshop, Learn the fundamentals of the patent application process, Tuesday, October 24 through Thursday, October 26. Capacity is limited. If you would like to attend, please complete the required interest form today. 

The three-day StART workshop provides training and one-on-one assistance to independent inventors in preparing and filing patent applications. To get the most out of this workshop, participants selected to attend are required to complete the course prerequisites before the workshop:

  • Complete the Intellectual Property (IP) Awareness Survey to identify the type of patent that best fits your IP needs.
  • Create a written description and drawing(s) of your invention to maximize your learning experience. 
  • Obtain a customer number to track your application.
  • Create a verified MyUSPTO.gov account to gain access to better monitoring, tracking, and responses from the USPTO throughout the application process.
