Identity verification now available

As part of our ongoing efforts to increase accountability during the trademark filing process and advance the United States Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) register protection initiatives, on January 8 we launched identity verification for USPTO.gov account holders who use the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) and TEAS international (TEASi). Identity verification is currently optional but will become mandatory starting April 9, 2022.

There are several options for verifying your identity, including an online process that takes most users 15 minutes or less. Our identity verification webpage includes all information on completing this one-time requirement. There is also information about the Trademark sponsorship tool, which allows verified attorneys to quickly sponsor support staff to work on their behalf.

Special notice: As part of the verification process, you must select one of the following user roles: trademark owner, U.S.-licensed attorney, Canadian attorney/agent, or attorney support staff. We’ll soon issue detailed guidance to help customers determine their role in specific situations.

Stay tuned for ongoing notifications about identity verification as we move closer to the April 9 deadline.
