The coolest award I have
As he regained consciousness, the first thing Washington Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs saw was his trainer and a cluster of fellow football players standing over him, some of them in tears. Springs had just taken a hard hit from Philadelphia Eagles fullback Josh Parry while pursuing Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. He could hear voices, but he couldn’t move or breathe.
“I remember everything before the play, but after that it was lights out,” Springs says. “It’s probably the hardest hit I’ve ever taken in my life.” He left the field on a stretcher and was hospitalized with a severe concussion.

In January, Las Vegas turned its attention from the bright lights, shows, and casinos to leading consumer technology innovations in robotics, transportation, electronics, and more. Spotlight on Commerce: Davetta Goins, Supervisory Patent Examiner
Growing up in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, where my family, neighbors, and close friends were scientists, engineers, doctors, lawyers, and teachers, I was surrounded by professionals. My parents were very active in community organizations that helped encourage teens in local high schools to enter the fields of science, math, and technology. These programs introduced me to a vast array of career paths, and paved the way for my decision to pursue a degree in electrical engineering.

Patent office’s Iancu describes new IP work-sharing agreement with Mexico
The U.S. and Mexico are so closely intertwined economically that it makes sense for their intellectual property systems to harmonize more closely. That’s the thinking behind a new work-sharing agreement between the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, or Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial. The Director of the USPTO, Andrei Iancu, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for the details.
