Fee Processing Next Generation (FPNG) Credit Card Payment Maintenance

Due to third-party system maintenance activities, credit/debit card payments will not be accepted from 9 p.m. until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 ET.  

During the maintenance period, the following USPTO storefronts will be unable to accept credit/debit card payments:

  • Electronic Filing System-Web (EFS-Web)
  • Electronic Filing System-Web Contingency (EFS-Web Contingency)
  • Patent Center
  • Patent Trial and Appeal Case Tracking System (P-TACTS)
  • Patent Maintenance Fees Storefront (FPNG)
  • Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS)
  • Trademark Electronic Application System International (TEASI)
  • Electronic System for Trademark Trials and Appeals (ESTTA)
  • Electronic Trademark Assignment Search (ETAS)
  • Office of Enrollment and Discipline Customer Interface (OEDCI)
  • Certified Copy Center (CCC)

Customers with an already established USPTO Deposit Account or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Account may still pay using one of these payment methods during the maintenance window.

If you are unable to wait until the maintenance activity has concluded to pay a fee, the following alternative options are available:

For PTAB Customers:

If your deadline is today for the petition filing and/or other associated documents to a pending AIA case and you cannot file electronically via the Patent Trial and Appeal Board End-to-End System (PTAB-E2E), you may use an alternative filing method. Please visit the PTAB-E2E FAQ page https://www.uspto.gov/patents/ptab/ptab-e2e-frequently-asked-questionsand see A2 for information concerning your AIA petition filing and/or document filing using PTAB-E2E alternative filing methods. If you have any questions, contact PTAB during normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET by telephone at 571-272-7822 or email at Trials@uspto.gov.

For Trademark Customers:

If your deadline is today and the document requiring a fee payment cannot be filed electronically, you must use an alternative method of filing. Please visit https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/apply/filing-documents-during-outage for information concerning Trademark alternative filing methods. If you have any questions, contact the TEAS Team by email at TEAS@uspto.gov.

For TTAB Customers:

If your deadline is today and the document cannot be filed electronically, you must use an alternative method of filing. Please visit the TTAB Outage Page for information concerning Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) alternative filing methods. If you have any questions, contact the TTAB Assistance Center during normal business hours between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, except federal holidays by telephone at 571-272-8500 or email TTABInfo@uspto.gov.

Bulk Data Storage System (BDSS) Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance on BDSS from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 ET. 

The entire BDSS system will be unavailable during the maintenance period.

Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) and Trademark Electronic Application System International (TEASi) Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance on the TEAS and TEASi systems from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 ET.

To minimize the risk of disruption, we recommend closing any active sessions and stopping your work between 9 and 9:15 a.m. ET.

Patent Electronic Filing System-Web (EFS-Web) Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance on EFS-Web from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 9 ET.

During this maintenance period, Fee Worksheets and Acknowledgement Receipts for submissions will not be generated.

Applicants may file submissions in EFS-Web during this time but wait until Monday for those documents to be generated. Applicants may still file submissions via Patent Center.
