USPTO and India’s central IP department agree to cooperate on IP examination and protection

At a virtual ceremony on December 2, Andrei Iancu, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and Secretary Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on a number of activities.

The agreement, which will remain in effect for 10 years, describes a range of cooperative activities pertaining to securing, using, and enforcing intellectual property (IP) rights in the areas of patents, trademarks, copyrights, geographical indications, and industrial designs.

Work done under this agreement will support USPTO efforts to promote effective systems for IP protection and enforcement around the world for the benefit of agency stakeholders.
