What you need to sell your arts and crafts online: Social media and photography

E-commerce for Native American artists & craftspeople webinar series 2022 signature graphic

American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian visual artists and craftspeople faced unique challenges with the shift to online sales and limits on attendance at local arts and crafts fairs.

This free webinar examined how to develop and expand your e-commerce presence.

This program was the sixth in a series of monthly webinars held throughout 2022. The series was organized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Indian Arts and Crafts Board and the nonprofit Indian Dispute Resolution Services, founder of The Acorn Project for Native American small businesses.

Although the skilled use of social media can boost sales and enhance visibility and reputation, it remains a topic that has been elusive for many Native American visual artists. It also requires artists and craftspeople to learn how to photograph their products and write detailed, attention-getting, descriptions.

This session covered:

  • Various types of social media available today and how they may be used, whether for advertising and promotion or direct sales
  • Product photography
  • Writing product descriptions
  • Guest artist on use of social media to promote and sell

A video recording is now available. For a complete list of upcoming dates, visit the series page.
