Mr. Andrew Wang serves as acting Deputy Commissioner for Patents supporting the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s patent operations and modernization efforts. He oversees the Office of Information Technology for Patents (OITP), which provides automation technologies, including artificial intelligence, e-commerce products, information resources, and customer support to patent business employees and the broader intellectual property community. He also oversees the Office of Application Processing for Patents (OAPP), which supports patent business operations through application processing, information resources, fee processing, and customer experience services.
Mr. Wang also oversees Technology Center 2400, which encompasses core technological domains including networks, multiplex, video compression, cable, and security—technologies that support modern mobile communications and internet connectivity.
Previously, Mr. Wang served as Assistant Commissioner with direct oversight of Technology Centers 1700 and 2800, which are responsible for examining patent applications in the areas of chemical and materials engineering, semiconductors and memory, optics, electrical circuits and systems, and printing, measuring, and testing.
He began his career at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 1996 as a patent examiner in Technology Center 1600, where he examined applications related to recombinant technologies. He was promoted to Supervisory Patent Examiner in 2002 and managed various art units in Technology Centers 1600 and 2600. In 2012, he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service and served as Director overseeing Technology Center 3700 operations.
Mr. Wang earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Molecular Biology from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
