Ray Dolby is best known for his work in noise reduction and surround sound technologies. He invented an electronic filter known as the Dolby® noise reduction sound system. His technology is widely used in movies, cinemas, personal computers and home theater equipment. He held over 50 U.S. patents and founded Dolby® Laboratories.
