Patricia Mallari

Special Advisor for Patents

Patricia Mallari is the Special Advisor for Patents to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), advising the Director and other USPTO executives on patent matters.

Ms. Mallari is also the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Commissioner for Patents at the USPTO, advising the Commissioner and senior executives on policy and operations in the Patents business unit and assisting in management and oversight.

Ms. Mallari joined the USPTO in 2001, initially serving as a patent examiner, primary patent examiner, and supervisory patent examiner and working primarily on patent applications in medical device technologies, including continuous glucose monitoring systems, brain-computer interfaces, and respiratory diagnostics. During her career at the USPTO, she has collaborated on and contributed to a variety of initiatives within Patents, including the recent reorganization of Patents’ senior leadership and the establishment and development of the role of the Search and Classification Examiner.

Ms. Mallari received a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University.
