Nicholas Rada is the Deputy Chief Economist at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Prior to joining the USPTO, Nicholas conducted research at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service. There, he investigated the nexus of science policy, food security, and agricultural total factor productivity (incl. technological progress and efficiency gains) in Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, and China, as well as in the United States. He also examined the changing relationship between farm size and productivity as countries reached different stages of economic development. Nicholas started his career by receiving a B.S. in economics and an M.S. in agricultural economics from West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Oregon State University.
