Organic compounds of unknown structure. This means that the structure of the compound cannot be deduced to a level sufficient to classify the document in any of the other subclasses of C07.

In subclasses C07C - C07K, the last place priority rule is used, i.e. in the absence of an indication to the contrary, a compound is classified in the last appropriate place. Hence, while individual heterocycle-containing amino acids are classified in subclass C07D, peptides are generally classified in subclass C07K. Similarly, compounds containing saccharide radicals are classified in subclass C07H and heterocyclic steroids are classified in subclass C07J. (Detailed instructions as to which compounds are considered as subclasses C07H, C07J or C07K can be found in the corresponding CPC Definitions.) Heterocycles incorporating elements other than C, H, halogen, N, O, S, Se or Te are classified in subclass C07F, but only if the metal-containing compound has a metal carbon bond or if the metal is attached to at least two different ligands. Salts, adducts or complexes formed between two or more organic compounds are classified according to all compounds forming the salts, adducts or complexes (e.g. maleic acid salts of heterocyclic compounds are also classified in subclass C07C).

Subclass C07G is allocated when the chemical subject matter is truly unknown or cannot be characterised. When claims are drawn to subject matter that could be classified in subclass C07G and the disclosed examples show that the structure of compound can be deduced to a sufficient level, one of more of the appropriate subclasses C07C, C07D, C07F, C07H, C07J or C07K should be applied instead of subclass C07G.

Subclass C07G is a structure-oriented entry for the compounds themselves and does not cover the application or use of the compounds under the subclass definition.

Medicinal preparations containing active organic ingredients are further classified in group A61K 31/00.

Medicinal preparations containing materials or reaction products thereof with undetermined constitution are further classified in group A61K 35/00.

Medicinal preparations containing undetermined constitution containing material from algae, lichens, fungi, plants or derivatives thereof, e.g. traditional herbal medicines are further classified in group A61K 36/00.

Medicinal preparations containing peptides are further classified in group A61K 38/00.

Therapeutic activity of chemical compounds or medicinal preparations is further classified in subclass A61P.

Uses of cosmetics or similar toiletry preparations are further classified in subclass A61Q.

In this subclass, in the absence of an indication to the contrary, a compound is classified in the last appropriate place.

Lignin and lignin derivatives of unknown structure, for instance the preparation or recovery of lignin from lignocellulosic material or black liquor.

Glycosides of unknown structure.

Alkaloids of unknown structure, e.g. isolation of structurally undefined alkaloids from plant material.

Ammonium bituminosulfonates of unknown structure, e.g. Ichthyol or bituminosulfonic acid and its salts.
