USPTO Offices

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) historically operated from one central headquarters located first in Washington D.C, and now in Alexandria, Virginia.

With the signing of the America Invents Act into law by President Obama in 2011, the USPTO moved forward with the establishment of at least three satellite offices. The first of the new offices opened in Detroit in 2012. The USPTO since established a temporary presence in Dallas, Denver, and Silicon Valley and currently houses Patent Board of Appeal Judges there.

The satellite offices create a regional presence for USPTO, and give inventors, entrepreneurs, and small businesses the added benefit of a USPTO presence in every time zone in the U.S. Staff in these offices can work closely with intellectual property services, start-ups, and job-growth accelerators in their regions. They will collaborate with local science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics organizations.
