1. A method for evaluating the compactness of a layer of railroad ballast near a railroad tie, comprising:
taking at least two measurements of penetration resistance (Qd) of a ballast near a same railroad tie, and
calculating a mean value (Qdmean) of the at least two measurements of penetration resistance (Qd),
wherein each of the measurements of penetration resistance (Qd) of the ballast near the railroad tie is carried out using a penetrometer,
wherein, for each of the respective measurements of penetration resistance (Qd), the driving of the penetrometer into the ballast is carried out by successive drives during which the instantaneous penetration resistance (Qdi) of the penetrometer corresponding to each drive is measured,
and wherein the penetration resistance (Qd) is obtained as an average of the instantaneous penetration resistance values (Qdi) measured during the successive drives of the penetrometer.
