1. An engine operating method comprising:
globally adapting a compressor surge line stored in non-transitory memory of an engine controller;
via the engine controller,
responsive to the global adaptation being a first global adaptation including the compressor surge line being advanced beyond an advance limit, indicating degradation of a compressor recirculation valve (CRV) the degradation of the CRV comprising a CRV opening being more than a desired CRV opening; and
responsive to the global adaptation being a second global adaptation including the compressor surge line being retarded beyond a retard limit, indicating degradation of the CRV, the degradation of the CRV comprising a CRV opening being less open than the desired CRV opening.
