Subject: Comments on 2016 Proposed Trademark Fee Adjustments

Dear USPTO:

As an IP practicing attorney, I would like to provide my opinion and comments on some of the proposed trademark fee adjustments.

I would recommend against the proposed increase of $100 for the electronic filing of a request for a six-month extension time for filing a statement of use under fee code 6004/7004 (proposed increase is from $150 per class to $250 per class). Such an increase would create a hardship on many individuals or small business owners who want to register their marks. In addition, it does not (or should not) cost the PTO more funds to process such requests as the electronic filing systems keep improving and require less human time. If the PTO requires additional funds, I suggest that they are obtained from filings that are done less frequently by individuals or small business owners.
