New work-sharing arrangement with El Salvador's National Center of Registries
The USPTO has announced a new work-sharing agreement with El Salvador's National Center of Registries (CNR). The new Accelerated Patent Grant (APG) will allow for expedited grants of Salvadoran patents to U.S. patent holders.
The arrangement is an example of the USPTO's work to coordinate internationally with other intellectual property (IP) offices to make it easier for U.S. companies to protect and enforce their IP rights around the world.
The APG is an applicant-driven patent work-sharing arrangement between the USPTO and a partner IP office. The USPTO and the CNR signed the APG arrangement on August 20, 2024. The arrangement provides U.S. patent holders with the option of utilizing a simplified and expedited process for obtaining a patent in El Salvador. The arrangement is set to remain in effect until August 20, 2029.
The CNR has published the guidelines for participating in the APG program implemented under this arrangement on its website. For more information about the APG, visit the USPTO's patent work-sharing webpage.
