USPTO Alert

REAL ID enforcement now in effect at USPTO

As of May 7, 2025, visitors to any USPTO facility where identification is required must present either state-issued identification that is REAL ID-compliant or another accepted government-issued photo identification such as:

  • Passport
  • Enhanced driver's license
  • Federal employee, military, or veteran identification card

You can find a full list of acceptable alternative forms of identification on the TSA website.

If you have in-person business at the USPTO, such as an examiner interview, outreach event, or Patent Trial and Appeal Board or Trademark Trial and Appeal Board hearing, please ensure you bring a form of REAL ID-compliant or approved alternative photo identification with you.

Visit USPTO locations for more information about our agency’s different offices and services across the U.S.
