Now Available: Updated Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure

The May 2025 version of the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP) is now available on the USPTO website. This update incorporates relevant precedential decisions issued since the November 2024 TMEP revision and before March 31, 2025. It also incorporates Exam Guide 1-25, which contains examination procedures for implementing the January 2025 fee changes.

The TMEP is the primary resource for information about the trademark examination process. This update furthers our goal of promoting transparency regarding our policies and procedures, and ensures our examining attorneys and customers have access to the most current information on those policies and procedures. Read the outline highlighting some of the clarifications and changes in the May 2025 version.
