"NSTI transformed my entire perspective on how and why students learn...it literally changed my life and career path in very unexpected ways."

Award-winning veteran teacher Reggie Duncan found the National Summer Teacher Institute (NSTI) when he was searching for a fun summer professional development opportunity. His NSTI experience ended up completely changing how he approached his students: he saw them as inventors first.

When he tasked his students with designing inventions to help solve the real-world problem of resource scarcity during the pandemic, he witnessed "through the roof" student engagement and lower math anxiety in his students who typically had trauma surrounding mathematics. He now works in the Office of Public Engagement at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he plans, develops, implements, and evaluates major national educational projects – like NSTI.

Apply today to experience NSTI for yourself from July 21-26 at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. This free, unique professional development experience provides the tools you need to unlock the power of invention education, intellectual property (IP), and STEM, and give your students the skills, mindset, and confidence they need to reach their potential.

Applications are due March 31. If you have questions regarding NSTI, contact NSTI_Applications@uspto.gov.
