You’re invited: Listening session on standards for connected transportation and infrastructure
Next week the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will host a listening session in person at the USPTO's Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional Office in Detroit on September 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m ET. Registration for in-person attendance closes on September 8 at 11 a.m. ET.
NIST and USPTO have been collaborating very closely at the intersection of standards, innovation, and intellectual property. As a next step in that collaboration, NIST is seeking information to support the development of an implementation plan for the U.S. Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology (USG NSSCET). The National Standards Strategy is intended to support and complement existing private sector-led efforts and reinforce the U.S. Government’s support of a private sector-led, open, consensus-based international standards system.
The event will include opening remarks and active participation from Dr. Laurie Locascio, Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director of NIST, and Kathi Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO. We will discuss the USG NSSCET, with a focus on automated, connected, and electrified transportation and automated, connected infrastructure.
Please see NIST's request for information in the federal register for more information about this and other upcoming listening sessions regarding this topic, as well as more ways to submit comments.
