New trademark decisions and proceedings search tool launched

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) launched a new, user-friendly search tool on February 17. The search tool allows you to filter and sort information to find decisions more easily on:

  • Expungement and reexamination proceedings
  • Administrative and sanctions orders

Ex parte expungement and reexamination proceedings are used to challenge trademark registrations for nonuse. The new search tool can locate all petitions filed by third-parties requesting expungement or reexamination and Director-initiated proceedings for expungement or reexamination. Read about these new procedures created by the Trademark Modernization Act of 2020.

Administrative and sanctions orders are issued under the authority of the USPTO Director when parties are found to have violated the USPTO Trademark Rules of Practice or the terms of use for USPTO websites and filing systems, as part of the administrative sanctions process.

Later this year, we will add decisions on Petitions to the Director to the search tool.

We welcome feedback on this new tool. To send feedback or for more information, email TMwebsite@uspto.gov.
