Hurricane Idalia postal service interruption and emergency

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has posted a notice designating the United States Postal Service (USPS) interruption in the areas of Florida and Georgia affected by Hurricane Idalia beginning on August 30 as an interruption and emergency. The designation provides support for any petition to the USPTO Director regarding the impact of the interruption on meeting a filing deadline.

To determine whether a post office has been closed or reopened, or whether postal services have been suspended or resumed, in an area in Florida or Georgia affected by Hurricane Idalia, contact the post office in question or visit the USPS website.

The designation has no impact on USPTO electronic filings. If the notice does not apply to your situation, other relief may be available by petitioning the USPTO.

More information is available in the full text of the notice on the USPTO’s Patent Related Notices webpage.
