Coming next month—Standard essential patent (SEP)/FRAND disputes: How SMEs can utilize mediation

Join us on Thursday, May 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, for a free virtual presentation on how mediation can help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with negotiations and disputes related to standard essential patents (SEPs) and “fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory” (FRAND) licensing.

The program will open with remarks from Kathi Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and Marco Alemán, Assistant Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), IP Innovation and Ecosystems Sector.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Case histories from a WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center representative, providing an overview of WIPO’s alternative dispute resolution service for SEP/FRAND disputes
  • A panel discussion with WIPO neutrals, who will offer details about what is involved in the mediation process
  • How mediation can facilitate SEP licensing
