Celebrate World IP Day early with student participants in USPTO's IP Skills Work-Based Learning program

Join the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Office of Education on April 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. ET to celebrate World Intellectual Property (IP) Day: The value of her IP. Hear a conversation between USPTO leadership and high school seniors who are participants in the USPTO’s Intellectual Property Skills Work-Based Learning (IP-Skills WBL) program through a contract with Urban Alliance. Listen to their discussion about the importance of World IP Day; how to bring engaging invention education to students, educators, and parents; and how to make IP and the innovation ecosystem more accessible to all.

The USPTO created the IP-Skills WBL program to provide high school students with opportunities for integrated science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) learning, IP awareness, invention education, entrepreneurship, and federal service. This paid experience seeks to increase employability and development of IP skills among historically excluded and underrepresented communities in geographic areas near USPTO headquarters and its regional offices, with a special focus on building a diverse next-generation workforce.

The USPTO’s Office of Education hosts monthly professional development webinars for K-12 educators interested in integrating IP, innovation, and invention activities into their curriculum. Visit the Office of Education webpage or email education@uspto.gov to learn more.
