Focusing on our mission to strengthen patent quality with our new quality metrics web resource
|
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)—America’s Innovation Agency—is committed to reinforcing first principles, or advancing a patent system that works for the public good. In doing so, the USPTO is focusing on our mission to issue robust and reliable patents that incentivize and protect innovation and investments. The first step in that process is looking at patent quality, processes, and perceptions.
Along with soliciting and considering quality measures and changes, we are unveiling a new patent quality metrics webpage which shares the metrics we use to gauge patent examination quality with the public. The webpage also reveals how we assess the quality of our processes and measure stakeholders’ perceptions. As we move forward, we will use the data on the webpage, as well as internal, Patent Public Advisory Committee, and other stakeholder input, to guide improvements.
