Examination guide issued on new deadline to respond to office actions for trademark applications

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a new examination guide regarding the changes being made to office action response periods for section 1 and/or section 44 applications. This new guide explains the upcoming change to the deadline for responding to most pre-registration office actions. Starting December 3, 2022, trademark applicants will have three months (with an optional three-month extension), instead of the current six months, to respond to those office actions subject to the new deadline. This change doesn’t apply to Madrid Protocol section 66(a) applications.

Read the examination guide and learn more about these changes on the New deadline to respond to office actions for applications webpage.
