Out of the limelight: Maude Adams

Maude Adams

For pride month 2021, we’re honoring Maude Adams, the most celebrated American actress of the early 20th century and an inventor. In the early 1920s, Adams worked with engineers at General Electric labs to create an incandescent lamp—the largest to date—that would show theater and film actors in their best possible light. She also worked as a lighting and production designer in her own right and originated the role of Peter Pan in the first U.S. production of James M. Barrie’s now-classic work.

Read the story now.

Each month, our Journeys of Innovation series tells the stories of inventors or entrepreneurs who have made a positive difference in the world.
