Remarks by Director Iancu at the Inaugural Meeting of the National Council for Expanding American Innovation
Since the founding of this great nation, innovation has been the driving force of our economy and our most defining trait as a people. It is no coincidence that the only time the word “right” is mentioned in the Constitution, before the amendments that came later, is with respect to intellectual property rights. This concept was that important to our Founders.
We thank the Secretariat for the timely presentation and comprehensiveness of the working documents, and its dedication in ensuring that all operations continue in a smooth and efficient manner during these challenging times. The United States fully endorses the statement delivered earlier by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom on behalf of Group B.
I hope you are staying safe and healthy. Even in these difficult times, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is running smoothly. Before the pandemic, 56% of USPTO employees worked from home full time, and another 31% worked from home at least one day a week. Our popular telework program made us uniquely well-positioned to pivot to full-time telework for all employees with little difficulty.
