Patent Grant Authority file layout Please Note: The Patent Grant Authority file contains all published USPTO Patent documents, except for Pre-Grant Publications. There is a Tab (character) between each of the seven (7) fields. The first four (4) fields indicate the status of the Patent document image The first field is at least nine (9) positions.   The first two (2) positions contain "US" for the "Country Code".   The next seven (7) positions and after contain the "Patent Number".   Note: Some Patent "Numbers" can begin with one or two capital letters, for example:   AI Additional Improvement AI00318   D Design Patent D138787   H Statutory Invention Registration H000006   PP Plant Patent PP00001   RE Reissue Patent RE00003   RX Reissued X Patent RX00098   T Defensive Publication T100001   X Patents issued before 13 July, 1836 X000001   See the Format of Patent Numbers page for more information The second field is two (2) positions and contains the Patent Document Kind Code   See the separate list of "Summary of Usage of USPTO Kind of Document Codes". The third field is the Issue Date of the Patent.   The issue date is eight (8) numeric positions in the (YYYYMMDD) format. The fourth field is one (1) or two (2) positions and is used to identify patents that are missing or are not unavailable   If the Patent images are available for viewing this field is a blank (character).   If the Patent images are missing, this field will have an "MP".   The USPTO does not have a copy of the missing documents in its collection.     If the Patent is withdrawn prior to publication, this field will have a "W".   Please note that withdrawn patents will NOT have a Patent "Kind of Document Code" in the search database.   Fields 5 through 7 indicate the status of the Patent document abstract, description, and claim(s) The fifth field is one (1) or two (2) positions and is used to indicate the abstract of the Patent is text-searchable   Where a searchable abstract text is available, this field will have an 'en' code which designates the original language for the abstract is English.   Where a searchable abstract text is Not available, this field will have an 'N' code.   Where a searchable abstract text is Unknown, this field will have a 'U' code. The sixth field is one (1) or two (2) positions and is used to indicate the description of the Patent is text-searchable   Where a searchable description text is available, this field will have an 'en' code which designates the original language for the abstract is English   Where a searchable description text is Not available, this field will have an 'N' code.   Where a searchable description text is Unknown, this field will have a 'U' code. The seventh field is one (1) or two (2) positions and is used to indicate the claim(s) of the Patent are text-searchable   Where searchable claim(s) text is available, this field will have an 'en' code which designates the original language for the abstract is English   Where searchable claim(s) text is Not available, this field will have an 'N' code.   Where searchable claim(s) text is Unknown, this field will have a 'U' code.
