The Office of Process Improvement (OPI) provides the methods, resources, and training to optimize United States Patent and Trademark Office business processes and strengthen the agency’s strategic goals of timeliness and quality. We partner with agency subject matter experts to form cross-functional teams that assess areas of improvement. Our approach is based on proven disciplines (such as Lean and Six Sigma) that achieve positive results by considering complete processes in a systematic way.
OPI assembles teams to identify and eliminate wasteful activities, reduce variation in processes to maximize consistency and predictability, and improve the development and delivery of products and services. After following this approach with a cross-functional team, we deliver a roadmap for process improvement. All of this is undertaken in an effort to improve our customer service and products for external stakeholders.
