PTAB - Financial Management Update

Make sure your payment methods have been moved to Financial Manager before next week.

If you pay PTAB fees using a deposit account or EFT, you should have already moved your account to Financial Manager. If your deposit account has not been moved, you will not be able to make payment and submit your filings.

Early next week, the USPTO will remove the ability to pay PTAB fees using deposit accounts and EFTs that are not stored in Financial Manager. To pay using a payment method stored in Financial Manager, login on the payment page using your uspto.gov email address and password as prompted.

If you need help or more information, visit www.uspto.gov/financialmanager to learn more about these upcoming changes and the advantages of storing all of your payment methods in Financial Manager. For additional information, you may also call the USPTO Contact Center for one-on-one assistance at 571-272-1000 or 800-786-9199 (select option 3, then option 4), or email FeesHelp@uspto.gov.

You are receiving this message because you have a stored payment method in the Financial Manager online system. The USPTO is updating Financial Manager next week with enhancements to strengthen user permission settings, improve reports, and phase out old payment options. We’re also rolling out a new notification feature within Financial Manager to notify you when new system features have taken effect and let you know if you need to take further action.

Upcoming enhancements:

User Permission Updates

To replenish a Deposit Account moving forward, you’ll now need Funds Manager permission for the Deposit Account being replenished and Funds Manager permission for the other Deposit Account or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) that is the funding source. Customers that replenish Deposit Accounts should work with a Deposit Account Administrator to make the necessary permission changes on the users tab in Financial Manager. The names of your Deposit Account Administrators are listed on the payment method details page.

Transaction Report Improvements

Based on your feedback, we’re updating our reports to make it easier for you to find the information you need. Customers with Reporter permissions will have easier access to the Patent or Trademark Reference number and the ability to conduct a transaction search across all payment methods of the same type.

Payment Option Changes

This update also removes the ability to pay fees using Deposit Accounts and EFTs that are not stored in Financial Manager from most USPTO payment pages. You will also no longer have access to the Financial Manager tabs to update your Deposit Account access code or EFT username/password. To pay using a payment method stored in Financial Manager, login on the payment page using your uspto.gov email address and password as prompted.

The changes will go into effect early next week. You will see notifications at the top of key pages in Financial Manager and the Patent Maintenance Fees Storefront to alert you that we have made the changes and to update your permission settings.
