Public User's Meeting

Public Records Division/Public Information Services Division
Public User's Meeting
September 17, 2008 2:00 p.m.
Jefferson Building Conference Center

The Public User's Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D70/1D80 of the Jefferson Building at 500 Dulany Street on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, Manager of PISD, chaired the meeting. There were 3 members of the public in attendance.

Announcements

On Sept. 12, 2008, a notice was distributed announcing that a workstation is now available to order paper files on the USPTO campus in the Trademark Assistance Center (TAC) on the lobby level in MDE. Patent files that are ordered have to be picked up in the FIU at South Tower. Trademark files ordered are delivered to the TAC.

PSF Updates

The Trademark Search Facility has closed in South Tower. All patent and trademark information is now consolidated into one facility, the Public Search Facility in Alexandria.

There are some issues with Public PAIR access being up/down. Data mining is a possible cause of the problem.

There is a question of public access to patent files - through the FIU. That question has to be directed to John Hassett since the FIU falls under the OCS.

The wireless bluecoat problem users were having has been resolved.

Public Records Division Updates

No firm date has yet been set for the move to Randolph Square in Shirlington. USPTO has not heard anything from the county about the build outs and construction in the new space.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m. Next meeting is 2:00 p.m. in the Jefferson building conference room 1D70/1D80 on October 15, 2008.
