The Public User's Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D70/1D80 of the Jefferson Building at 500 Dulany Street on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Amanda Putnam, Manager of the Public Records Division, chaired the meeting. There were seven members of the public in attendance.

Announcements

Trademark Search Facility located in the South Tower (Crystal City) 2nd floor will be closed after Friday, September 5, 2008.

Public Search Facility Manager reported that a total of 91 responses to the Public Search Facility Customer Satisfaction survey were received. A survey results summary report will be available at a later date.

Public Search Facility Update

UPWS

User Comment: Why were UPWS applications not available for an extended period of time on Friday August 8th?

Answer: A database server problem occurred that impacted USPTO system access campus-wide on Friday August 8th.

User Comment: A user experienced problem using X-Search to conduct trademark searches on Monday morning August 18th. After a short period of time the problem was resolved and searches could be conducted without a problem event occurring.

User Comment: Will the UPWS workstations now in the Trademark Search Facility be relocated to the File Information Unit when that office relocates to Shirlington?

Answer: Corporate Services will make a determination as to how many UPWS workstations will be relocated to Shirlington as part of the File Information Unit operations. Corporate Services has scheduled an August File Information Unit public meeting. At that meeting specific information may be given.

User Comment: A user inquired as to when a file ordering capability would be available for public use on the USPTO Carlyle campus.

Answer: Corporate Services' File Information Unit organization is discussing the possibility of installing a File ordering workstation at the USPTO Carlyle campus.

Public Records Division Update

User Question: Are the dates for the move to Shirlington set?

Answer: No final date yet. USPTO is waiting for approvals from Arlington County, possible closer dates by November 2008.

There will be shuttle service between Carlyle and Shirlington and the loop shuttle will operate between Pentagon City metro station and Shirlington (Randolph Square).

User Question: Will the customer boxes be moved to Shirlington?

Answer: The boxes will move to Shirlington. Notices will be sent to customers for the boxes. They will be located on the same floor as the FIU.
