Public User's Meeting

Public Records Division/Public Information Services Division
Public User's Meeting
July 15, 2009 2:00 p.m.
Remsen Building Conference Center

The Public User's Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D04/1D14 of the Remsen Building at 400 Dulany Street on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, Manager of the Public Information Services Division, chaired the meeting. There were two members of the public in attendance.

Announcements

The agency is reviewing data showing the use of all public photocopiers and microfilm reader/printers located in the different public facilities at USPTO to determine if all of them are still needed. An initial review of copier use located in the Public Search Facility shows that we can remove one photocopier on the second floor, leaving one still there, and remove one photocopier on the first floor, leaving two still there, and not impact customer service. No microfilm reader/printers will be removed as we recently acquired major collections of trademark microfilm. The public will be notified of final determinations.

Public Search Facility Update

The PubWEST Beta ends today (July 15).

The PubEAST Beta is scheduled for July 27 through July 31.

UPWS machines are receiving a new baseline in groupings. Contingency testing was successful, and there are no problems with the roll out thus far.

There was a switch problem with our network last week impacting different applications including PubEAST. It has been fixed.

Public Users feedback:

PubEAST flip rate slow on July 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Wireless access continues to be inconsistent. Email not available on two different days last week. (July 7 and 9, Tuesday and Thursday).

When searching published applications, please include patent number link in upper blue banner for an easy link.
