Subject: Patent Drawings.

Gentlemen, I strongly urge you to reconsider your decision to change the rules/requirements for formal patent drawings. One only has to look at the stuff coming out of the European Paten Office to understand what this will do to our system.

I have been illustrating patents for 27 years and I donÂ’t think this ruling would affect me that much. My attorneys will still want high quality drawings because they know how important it is that when it comes to defending these patents they have drawings that are easy to understand and precisely illustrate the patent. It's the poor guy filing his own application that's going to get hurt by this. They don't have a clue how important it is to have a legible, accurate and easily understood set of drawings in order to have their patent protection enforced in court.

I fear that this would change the entire character of the Patenting process and create a system that gives far less protection to the individual filer.

Please don't do this.........John Hellberg, Two Hand Graphics, Travelers Rest SC
