USPTO to Host Webcast on Public PAIR Data Mining

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will host a webcast on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time to discuss recent disruptions in the availability of Public PAIR and the USPTO's commitment to public access to patent data. Public PAIR is the publicly accessible portion of the Patent Application Information Retrieval system and has recently experienced service disruptions caused by bulk downloading of data by the public, commonly referred to as "data mining."

Please join Commissioner for Patents John Doll and Chief Information Officer David Freeland for a discussion of recent system access problems and the security feature implemented.

To register for this free web event, please visit: https://uspto.connectsolutions.com/ppevent/event/registration.html

An e-mail address dedicated to Public PAIR data mining is available to our customers. The USPTO invites you to send your comments and questions to PAIR_webcast@uspto.gov. To help us better understand your needs, please include details about the types of PAIR data you need and how often you need to receive it.

Paying for a Terminal Disclaimer

When paying for a Terminal Disclaimer via EFS-Web, select fee code 1814, "$130 Statutory disclaimer under Post Allowance & Post Issuance Fees" on the Calculate Fees screen. Please do not select fee code 1808 "$130 Processing Fee, except for Provis. Apps," as this is not the appropriate fee code for paying for a Terminal Disclaimer.

e-Office Action Pilot Registration

As an alternative to receiving new outgoing correspondence related to a patent application in paper via postal mail, pilot participants in the e-Office Action program receive an e-mail notifying them to directly access outgoing documents in Private PAIR.
