Q. I can't download the Entrust/Directsoftware from the website, what is wrong?

A. This usually means that you have a firewall and our servers cannot resolve the IP address not to be foreign. Please contact the Patent EBC (toll free) 1-866-217-9197 to have a copy of the CD mailed to you.

Q. How do I create my PKI digital certificate ?

A. Install the USPTO software (USPTO Direct)on your computer. Open the "USPTO Direct" icon from the desktop and select "Create Profile". Fill in the requested information, and click Ok.

Q. How do I copy my PKI digital certificate to another computer?

A. Go to the USPTO folder usually c:\program files\uspto on the first PC and copy all of the files that contain the profile name onto a floppy disk. Take the disk to the second PC and go to the USPTO folder on that PC. Paste the files from the disk into the USPTO folder on the second PC. However, a Digital Certificate is only licensed for the applicant and one other user under the applicant's direct control.

Q. My computer's hard drive was deleted, what do I do?

A. If you didn't have the profile backed-up on a floppy disk or another drive, contact the Patent EBC (toll free) 1-866-217-9197 and they will request that the USPTO security office issue a new set of PKI codes to you. The profile can be recovered/recreated.

Q. I have my customer number and I have created my profile, why can't I see any applications in Private PAIR?

A. You must first send in the Customer Number Upload spreadsheet to associate all of your applications with your customer number before you will be able to view them in PAIR.

Q. Why am I getting a message that says my "Customer Number is Invalid" when I search for an application in PAIR?

A. This message actually means that there are no applications associated with your customer number yet. You must submit the Customer Number Upload Spreadsheet to associate the applications with your customer number first .

Q. I have created my profile, but I can only access the "Public" side of PAIR.

A. Contact the Patent EBC (toll free) 1-866-217-9197 to make corrections to your profile.

Q. What information can I view in Private PAIR?

A. You can review limited patent data, pending application information, prosecution history, application images (if available), and status and location of the application.

Q. Is the information I am viewing in PAIR current?

A. Yes! The information in PAIR is real-time.

Q. What type of applications can I view in Public PAIR?

A. Public PAIR provides access to public applications including: patents, published applications, and applications to which a patented or published application claims domestic priority. PCT applications and any applications that have not been released by the USPTO Licensing and Review Board will not be viewable in Public PAIR.

Q. What type of applications can I view in Private PAIR?

A. Any applications you associate with your customer number, except PCT applications and any applications that have not been released by the USPTO Licensing and Review Board.
