Planned Events

Multiple Systems Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance affecting multiple systems beginning at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, May 9 and ending at 5 a.m., Saturday, May 9 ET.

The following systems and systems that interface with these systems will be unavailable during the maintenance period:

•  Patent Center
•  EFS-Web for Registered eFilers
•  Private PAIR
•  Sponsorship Tool

During this maintenance period, if you need to file a new patent application, you can use EFS-Web for unregistered eFilers or EFS-Web Contingency.

If you need to file a follow-on submission, use an alternative filing method.

USPTO Systems Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance beginning at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, May 9 and ending at 5 a.m., Saturday, May 9 ET.

These systems will be unavailable:

  • Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS)
    • Initial applications will be unavailable. Links to TSDR and images from TSDR, including mark images, will be unavailable.
  • Trademark Electronic Application System International (TEASi)
    • Links to TSDR and images from TSDR, including mark images, will be unavailable.

During the maintenance period the following manuals will be unavailable:

  • Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP)
  • Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP)
  • Trademark Federal Statutes and Rules (TFSR)
  • Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Manual of Procedure (TBMP)

Electronic Filing System-Web Maintenance

The USPTO will be performing maintenance on Electronic Filing System-Web (EFS-Web) beginning at 12 a.m., Saturday, May 9 and ending at 5:30 a.m., Saturday, May 9 ET.

Services provided by EFS-Web for Registered eFilers, EFS-Web for Unregistered eFilers, and EFS-Web Contingency will be unavailable during this maintenance window.

If you need to file a new patent application or follow-on submission to an existing application during the maintenance period, please use an alternative filing method.

If you have questions, please contact the Patent Electronic Business Center (EBC) at (866) 217-9197 during their operating hours of 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday - Friday ET, or email EBC@USPTO.GOV.

OEDCI Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance on the Office of Enrollment and Discipline Patent Practitioner Search, Registered Practitioner Portal, and Exam Applicant Portal (OEDCI) beginning at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 13 and ending at 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 13 ET.

OEDCI will be unavailable during the maintenance period.

Additionally, Adjudicated Case Tracking System (ACTS) and Patent Trial Appeal Board End to End (PTAB E2E) will be unable to access OEDCI during the maintenance period. 

OEDCI users should save all work and log off before the maintenance period begins.

TESS, TDSCM Maintenance and Archived TMEP

Trademark Design and Search Code Manual (TDSCM), Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) and Archived Trademark Manual for Examination Procedures (Archived TMEP) will be unavailable beginning at 12:01 a.m., Thursday, May 14 and ending at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14 ET.

This maintenance will not affect access to the current TMEP and all previous versions available at https://tmep.uspto.gov/.

We are performing maintenance to improve system security.

Complete all your work in TDSCM, TESS and Archived TMEP before 12:01 a.m., Thursday, May 14 ET.

Systems Maintenance

The USPTO will perform maintenance affecting several systems beginning at 12:01 a.m., Sunday, May 17 and ending at 8 a.m., Sunday, May 17 ET.

The following systems and systems that interface with these systems will be unavailable during the maintenance period:

  • Electronic Filing System Web (EFS-Web & EFS-Web Contingency)
  • Office of Enrollment and Discipline Roster of Patent Attorneys/Agents (OEDCI)
  • Patent Trial and Appeal Board End-to-End System (PTAB-E2E)
  • Private Patent Application Information Retrieval (Private PAIR)
  • Public Patent Application Information Retrieval (Public PAIR)
  • Publication Site for Issued and Published Sequences (PSIPS)
  • Financial Manager and Patent Maintenance Fees Storefront
  • Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS)
  • Trademark Electronic Application System International (TEASi)
  • Trademark Official Gazette (TMOG)

The maintenance will also cause interruptions to payment processing for users of the Electronic Trademark Assignment Search (ETAS), the Order Entry Management System (OEMS), the Electronic System for Trademark Trials and Appeals (ESTTA), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board End to End (PTAB-E2E).

If your deadline is today for the petition filing and/or other associated documents to a pending AIA case and you cannot file electronically via the Patent Trial and Appeal Board End-to-End System (PTAB-E2E), you may use an alternative filing method.

The maintenance will cause an outage to payment processing for USPTO storefronts. Users of the following systems should not attempt to make a payment during the maintenance period:

  • Electronic Filing System (EFS-Web)
  • Patent Maintenance Fee Storefront
  • Order Entry Management System (OEMS)

For Patent Customers:

During the maintenance period, EFS-Web applicants may file new patent applications and follow-on submissions without fees.

Please do not file ePetitions, eTerminal Disclaimers, Web 85b, or any submissions which require fee payment at time of submission, since these will fail without successful payment.

EFS-Web Applicants:

During the maintenance period, if you need to file a new patent application (except 371 National Stage), please use EFS-Web Contingency: https://www.uspto.gov/patents-application-process/applying-online/efs-web-contingency

For follow-on submissions, please use an alternative filing method.
