Join us at the San Diego Central Library for an Intellectual Property Q & A Session with West Coast Regional United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Director John Cabeca. This session is offered due to the postponement of the" Fabrication and Innovation Series" launch initially scheduled at the same time.
Do you have questions about patents, trademarks and other ways to protect intellectual property? Come and meet Director Cabeca this Friday at the City Library from 4-5pm and join the discussion covering the types of intellectual property, hear about resources and assistance available through the USPTO, and get your questions answered. You'll also hear important tips that every innovator should know when it comes to securing intellectual property. The session is free and open to the public. Please register here for the event by February 16, 2017.
As the Regional Director, Mr. Cabeca carries out the strategic direction of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, and is responsible for establishing and leading the USPTO's west coast regional office located in Silicon Valley. Focusing on the region and actively engaging with the community, Mr. Cabeca ensures the USPTO’s initiatives and programs are tailored to the region's unique ecosystem of industries and stakeholders.

A 3D modeling workshop will be presented by Fab Lab San Diego after the talk. The Fab Lab is charging a $10 fee for the workshop.
3D MODELING WORKSHOP DETAILS
As new technologies related to 3D printing and rapid prototyping drive innovation and change industry, understanding how to utilize 3D tools is becoming a critical part of the design and development of products. In this workshop, we will cover:
Fundamentals of 3D modeling as related to basic prototype design
Examples of product development and prototyping
Software workflows for preparing a 3D model to print
With a focus on supporting the prototyping needs of the inventor and entrepreneur, this workshop will assist participants in learning the programs that can facilitate bringing their ideas to life through applied product prototyping. We will focus on 3D modeling, approaches to using these tools, as well as the impact that this technology has on the world of manufacturing and product development.
