Washington - The U.S. Commerce Department's Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced today that it is expanding its communications outreach through social media with the official launch of a Twitter account. Along with its use of Facebook and other online tools like the "Director's Forum" blog, the USPTO continues to diversify the ways in which it informs and engages the public and the intellectual property community.
The USPTO expects to provide brief, daily updates through Twitter and can be followed at www.twitter.com/uspto.
"As an agency dedicated to promoting innovation, it's only natural for us to expand our means of communication with the public in creative ways," said Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO David Kappos. "Communicating through Twitter allows us to be even more nimble and effective in quickly conveying news and information to the public, building upon our existing online presence through Facebook and the USPTO website."
