USPTO to Hold 12th Annual Independent Inventors Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina
Registration is still open for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) annual Independent Inventors Conference. The event will be held September 14-15, 2007, in conjunction with North Carolina State University, College of Textiles and the National Inventors Hall of Fame(r) Foundation.
Just added to the lineup of featured speakers for this event is North Carolina's Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall, who will discuss her role in the creation of new businesses and law enforcement leadership in the fight against counterfeit brand-name products and pirating of protected intellectual property.
Top officials from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, successful inventors and entrepreneurs also will headline. USPTO presenters will include Margaret J. A. Peterlin, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and Peggy Focarino, Deputy Commissioner for Patent Operations.
Michael Sykes, a Wake Forest builder, will talk about his 25 year journey inventing a house that heats and cools itself without fuel or electricity. You would think this was a slam-dunk, a better mousetrap, and the world would beat a path to your door. Think again. In words and pictures Michael describes both the light bulb moments, and the unbelievable obstacles in the invention process leading to America's Most Innovative House, and now, the Modern Marvel of 2007.
Also presenting will be Louis Foreman, successful inventor and CEO of Enventys and Everyday Edisons Productions; Alan Baum, President of the USA and Canada Licensing Executive Society; and Monica Doss, president of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development of North Carolina.
A pre-conference workshop (September 13, 2007 from 5pm - 7pm) is included with your registration for anyone interested in learning why patents exist and how they protect inventions. This is a basic workshop for beginners and will be repeated during the conference.
Conference updates will be posted for this informative event.
