The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the principal advisor to the USPTO on the design, development, and management of the information systems and technologies that enable the agency's business and strategic growth. These include the various automated systems used by millions of intellectual property owners around the world to file for and maintain patents and trademarks in the United States, as well as various internal systems that enable thousands of USPTO employees to efficiently discharge the agency's mission. In addition, the CIO directs the USPTO's capabilities and resources for IT planning, management, measurement, and customer collaboration.
