The USPTO hosted an event on October 22, 2025, for an international roundtable on artificial intelligence (AI), industrial designs, and inventorship. This public event was held at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia..

Subject matter experts on AI and industrial designs from the USPTO and the private sector examined the following questions:

  • How inventorship/creatorship of designs is currently analyzed in various jurisdictions
  • How inventorship/creatorship standards for industrial designs are analyzed in light of generative AI
  • Whether there should be a different inventorship/creatorship standard for designs as compared to inventions

A recording of international roundtable on artificial intelligence (AI), industrial designs, and inventorship is now available.
